Until a year ago, Kailyn Taylor’s dream of being a worship leader was a secret she kept tucked inside.
An invitation to lead worship for a church her mother and step-father were planting in Pittsburgh forced her dream out into the open.
“My parents had known my heart for worship and that it was something I enjoyed, but they didn’t know how deep it was,” Kailyn explained. “No one knew how much I desired to be a worship leader. That was something I didn’t share with people often because I was scared to sing in front of people.”
Although Kailyn’s time leading worship in Pittsburg was brief, the experience was a healing one.
“The Lord broke down a lot of fear and a lot of walls while I was up there — not just about singing in front of people, but also about who I am as a person,” she said.
When she returned home to Texas, Kailyn changed her major at The King’s University from Biblical studies to Worship Leadership.
“I haven’t regretted a single minute,” she exclaimed. “As I have taken classes, both biblical and musical, I have learned more about the Lord, myself and music than I ever have before in my life. God has me on a journey I never would have been able to accomplish without His guidance. He has given me courage to take steps I would have been afraid of before and the strength to keep moving forward when times got hard.”
Kailyn says an education fund set up by her father who passed away 6 years ago also enables her to realize her dream of becoming a worship leader.
“He’s a part of the dream I had since I was little, even though he never heard me (lead worship),” she said. “It makes me want to work harder and appreciate it so much more because it’s a way of honoring him.”
