FAQs

Ordering Information

Where do I order my cap and gown?
You can order regalia through Oak Hall, which comes with your cap (and tassel) and gown. You can pay for it there when you have it ship to your address, or if you ship it to TKU, you can pay for it when you pick it up.

When can I pick up my regalia from TKU?
Pick up dates are from late April to the day of Commencement. Please check the Graduation Application for specific dates.

Where can I order a diploma frame or cover?
The TKU bookstore sells diploma frames, and you will get a diploma cover at the Ceremony (mailed to those not in attendance).

Can I purchase graduation invitations with TKU?
TKU does not offer invitations, but an internet search can offer you businesses near you that can print/send invitations.

When will I get my diploma?
Once we receive final grades and confer degrees, Paradigm has a 10-business day processing time. We will notify you when we order diplomas.

Commencement Ceremony

When do doors open for the Commencement Ceremony?
Gateway’s doors open at 6:00 pm and the auditorium doors open at 6:30 pm.

I cannot attend the Ceremony, how can I be a part of it?
We livestream the Ceremony so you will be able to join online. We also offer the option to submit “thank yous” to those who have helped you throughout your time at TKU. We also announce students who are graduating in absentia so you can be recognized during the Ceremony.

How many tickets can I purchase for the Ceremony?
We do not require tickets to attend the Ceremony, just let your friends and family know that it will begin at 7:00 pm at Gateway – Southlake.

Can I leave the building after checking in?
No – we have all students remain in the building until the Ceremony ends. We will not chase after you or look for you. If you are not in place and ready for the event, you will not participate.

How long does the Ceremony last?
The Ceremony usually lasts two hours with all graduating students.

Can I take photos at the Ceremony?
We will have time after the Ceremony ends for photo opportunities with you and your guests in the lobby, including complementary photos from our photographer in front of the photo backdrop.

Is this an entire-day event?
Yes – after the Graduate Brunch in the morning, there is a break before we require graduates to check-in at Gateway at 3:00 pm. We have set aside time for rehearsal, photos, and dinner with faculty before the Ceremony begins. Graduates will be busy the entire day and must remain at the Gateway-Southlake campus.

When can I apply for graduation?
Check your student email and look for announcements from TKU or posted on the Blackboard login page. Basically, if you are already registered for your final semester, you can apply for graduation.

I’ll be graduating in the Summer. May I still walk in the Commencement ceremony?
Yes, just be sure to register for your Summer courses, and then apply for Summer graduation. After you submit your graduation application, we will send you a commencement participation form that will authorize you to walk during the May ceremony.

Graduating with Honors

I am graduating with honors – where do I order my honor cords?
TKU will provide honor cords on the day of Commencement and will mail cords to those who are not in attendance.

What honors will I graduate with? –OR– Why didn’t I graduate with higher honors?
Information about the academic honors is listed in the current academic catalog, policy AC-104.2.

Finances

How do I pay the graduation fee?
You can pay the graduation fee as you would pay for tuition – in the Student Portal. The fee typically appears in one or two weeks.

Can I graduate if I owe TKU money for tuition or fees?
You can still graduate with a financial balance! However, until you clear your balance, you will not be able to participate in the Ceremony, and we will not be able to release your transcript or diploma.

I don’t see my graduation fee on the student portal. How can I pay the fee?
That fee is added manually by the financial services department and will be listed on your bill soon.
