Fall Colloquium

The Fall Colloquium experience will be on Tuesday, October 20, from 11:00 a.m.–12:15 p.m.
This semester, Dr. Sandra Glahn will present “Who Was Artemis and Why Do We Care?”
Dr. Glahn’s research explores the historical and cultural world behind the New Testament. In her book Nobody’s Mother: Artemis of the Ephesians in Antiquity and the New Testament, she examines the worship of Artemis in ancient Ephesus and considers how understanding this cultural context can help us better understand Paul’s words to Timothy and the role of women in the early church.
Her newest book, A Woman’s Place Is in the Story: Seeing Women in the Biblical Narrative, continues this exploration by examining how women function within the larger story of Scripture. Dr. Glahn invites readers to look more carefully at women in biblical narratives—both well-known and often overlooked—and consider how their stories contribute to the meaning of the biblical text.
Join us for an engaging conversation on Artemis, the world of the New Testament, and what these ancient contexts can teach us about reading Scripture today.
