This semester at The King’s, we have seen God shaping students in powerful ways. Arianna’s story is one of them, and we are honored to share how God has been forming her voice and calling.
From the time she was young, Arianna Shelton found her place in worship. As a pastor’s daughter, she stepped into leadership early, surrounded by encouragement and responsibility. Over time, an unspoken pressure took root. She learned how to appear confident while quietly carrying fear and shame, believing love is measured by perfection.
When Arianna began thinking about college, she felt unsure of her direction and hesitant about stepping forward. She was accepted into a niche worship program in Nashville, yet inside she questioned whether higher education was the right next step at all. As she explored different options, she continued to pray for clarity, asking the Lord to lead her rather than trying to force a decision on her own.
When she visited The King’s University, something surprising happened. She felt a sense of peace and excitement she had not felt in a long time. “I realized I had begun to convince myself I wasn’t going to go to school,” she said, “but being there, I felt God pulling me forward.” Instead of feeling pressure to perform, Arianna sensed an invitation to grow, and she left knowing this was the place where God was asking her to take her next step.
That invitation became especially clear during her first semester. In her Communication class with Dr. Buchholz, Arianna struggled to see herself as a speaker. “I could not make eye contact with other students when I delivered a speech,” she said. Dr. Buchholz noticed it, too. “At the beginning she was timid,” he said. “She knew a lot, but she did not trust herself to say it.”
At the same time, Arianna was being shaped in Dr. Call’s Spirit-Formed Life, where she was learning to release the pressure to perform and rest in who she is in Jesus. That grounding became evident. “With every assignment she got stronger,” Dr. Buchholz said. “Her voice was starting to show.”
The semester culminated in a final talk in her communications class that brought everything together. Arianna chose a message that had been forming quietly in her own heart. She titled it Who Told You That? and centered it on the lies people believe about themselves, especially the voices that say they are unworthy or not enough. “So much of my life was shaped by those thoughts,” she said. “I did not even realize how much they were affecting me.”
She spoke honestly about shame and fear, then pointed listeners back to the truth of who God says they are. Dr. Buchholz described the presentation as masterful, noting her intentional delivery and the authority and empathy carried in her words.
Today, Arianna is continuing to discover how God wants to use her voice in new and unexpected ways. As she works toward her associate degree in Worship Leadership, she is learning that worship is not limited to music alone, but expressed through truth, testimony, and obedience. “I think the Lord is showing me that my purpose is to reveal His goodness and gentleness to others,” she said.

Thank you for helping cultivate leaders who shine the light of Christ wherever He sends them.
