At The King’s University, we believe it’s never too late to say “yes” to God’s call. That truth came to life recently when Alumna, Queen Spriggs, was featured on WFAA’s Good Morning Texas after earning her Master of Practical Theology at 83-years-old.
Her story is one of deep faith, resilience, and the courage to keep learning, no matter your season of life.
From Birthday Milestone to Ministry Preparation
Queen first appeared on Good Morning Texas three years ago, when she captured hearts by celebrating her 80th birthday with her very first McDonald’s Big Mac. That moment brought joy and smiles to viewers across North Texas—but her latest appearance shares something even more meaningful.
In the new segment, Queen reflects on her decision to return to school and pursue a degree in ministry.
“I’ve never had the mindset that it’s over,” she says. “I didn’t know what I was going to do, but I knew I was going to do something.”
That open-hearted determination led her to The King’s University, where she found a program and community that fit her calling.
Honored with the Jack Hayford Award
At this year’s commencement ceremony, Queen was honored with the Jack Hayford Award, the highest student recognition given by The King’s University. Named after our founder, Pastor Jack Hayford, the award is presented to a graduate who demonstrates extraordinary perseverance, spiritual maturity, and a lifelong commitment to learning and leading.
Dr. Dan Call, Professor of Practical Theology and the Program Director of Doctor of Ministry, shared in the interview why Queen was selected:
“We wanted someone who had overcome challenges and continued to grow, develop, and encourage others to do the same. She was a perfect fit.”
Equipping Leaders at Every Stage of Life
Queen Spriggs’ journey is a living example of what it means to be a Christ-like, Spirit-empowered, transformational leader. Her story encourages us all to remain open to what God might do, no matter our age or circumstance.
“When you tell yourself you can do something, you will—because you’ll do everything to make that happen.” — Queen Spriggs”
