For Sarah Sanders, choosing to come to The King’s University was far from business as usual.
For the last ten years, the business arena has been Sarah’s world. Besides running her own small property business, she also most recently served as a Principal Advisor for State Transport and Infrastructure in her home of Brisbane, Australia.
“(Since school) I’ve always had a vision and desire to be in business and be able to use that to build the kingdom of God,” Sarah explained. “I’ve been gifted and had favor in that area, but at the same time you can’t take the call of God off you when it comes to ministry. That’s always been my heart.”
Ministry has also been a regular part of Sarah’s life.
“As children, we would go off and do missions,” she said. “Unfortunately, my parents divorced when I was at a young age. At the time my Dad had been ministering in Hungary after the Iron Curtain came down, so we lived in Hungary for a bit. My Dad stayed there and planted a ministry and many churches, and I grew up in Australia with my Mom. I did all my schooling in Australia, but otherwise I traveled with my Dad almost every year. That was my life.”
It was during one of her times in Hungary that Sarah sensed God calling her into ministry.
“I was 20 and I was just finishing college,” she explained. “I had three months left. I was submerged in the Word every day — reading it, studying it, going out, laying hands on people and evangelizing. I felt God calling me to stay in Hungary. I said, “Please God, just let me finish college.”
So that was the path she took.
God honored Sarah’s request to finish college and she then entered the business world. She compares the last 10 years of her life to Joseph in the Bible.
“God planted me and I went through some really challenging times with the recession, but God kept promoting me in times when there were no promotions and giving me jobs when there were no jobs. You can go anywhere and as long as you’re in the Word His favor follows you everywhere and you flourish.”
Last year when Sarah came to Texas for a family wedding, she spent some time looking into various Christian universities.
“It’s been on my heart for years to take time out of my work to learn more about who I am in God and just to be in God more,” she said.
Sarah prayed and sought after God and found TKU online.
“TKU had everything I wanted to study and the mission/belief statement aligned with everything I had been praying for. The courses offered were also everything I wanted, and fully accredited.”
The Ministry of Divinity. student received further confirmation about coming to TKU when she attended Sunday services at Gateway Church.
“Jack Hayford was teaching and spoke about TKU and its beginnings,” she explained. “I knew it was no coincidence that the founder and chancellor of TKU spoke on the same Sunday I happened to be there and the only weekend I had free while visiting from Australia.”
Sarah went home to Australia and in January she put in her notice to leave her job.
Even though Sarah doesn’t know what God has planned for her after TKU, she knows He has a plan and isn’t fearful. She is loving this season of her life.
“As I continue to seek God and rest in Him, He will continue to open these doors and lead me to walk in them,” she said. “It’s been a real journey, but I am so excited to be here.”
